for niche players

"There are a lot of people who like trends that run counter" Demographer, Bernard Salt.

He was actually talking about the rise in V8s (counter to the general shift to smaller, more environmentally friendly cars) as a backlash against everything smaller cars represent. But it struck a chord with me - markets often seem to be going in opposite directions at once. And especially for smaller and niche players in large markets, it's a thought worth bearing in mind I think.

So trends aren't mutually exclusive, but you still have to pick them? Or just stay true to an underlying objective?

just thinking out loud

Thanks Melinda. Yes and yes. I think what we're about is finding voices and stories that aren't being published by others that we can publish successfully.

Do you think that trends are there to be created as well? Whoever heard of rainbow fairies or boys with owls before those trends??

Whoever realised that glitter on the cover of a book, any book could in itself be a selling point and become a trend??

An interesting area, me thinks.
